Italian Pentecostal Church of Canada Joins The Assemblies of God

December 27, 2004 --The Italian Pentecostal Church in Canada, established in 1912, has changed its name to the Canadian Assemblies of God.

The organization voted to affiliate with the World Assemblies of God Fellowship. Based in Montreal, the church has been ministering to the Italian communities of Canada for 92 years. It currently serves 20 congregations and includes nearly 3,000 adherents.

"We have been encouraged and helped by the Assemblies of God in a way that has impacted our desire to come alongside," says David Mortelliti, general superintendent of the Canadian Assemblies of God. "We strongly believe Canada is a huge mission field in need of the gospel of Christ."

Mortelliti says he expects the new cooperative relationship to foster church growth in Canada. In Quebec, less than one percent of the population is evangelical. He hopes to see that change as the church places new emphasis on training leaders, planting congregations and participating in evangelism.

"We are thrilled to welcome these wonderful pastors and the leadership of the Canadian Assemblies of God into the worldwide fellowship of this church," says Thomas Trask, U.S. AG general superintendent. "We believe the days that lie ahead for the Canadian Assemblies of God will be days of advancement and growth."
